Meet the Teachers

A Community is . . .

As Debbie, Christi, Danielle, and I (Paola) get started with our project we would like to post a quick definition of what a community is.
The word community is derived from the Latin communitas (meaning the same), which is in turn derived from communis, which means "common, public, shared by all or many".[1] Communis comes from a combination of the Latin prefix com- (which means "together") and the word munis (which has to do with performing services).

A School is a Community

For all of us community meant various things, and we decided to present various types of communities.

School is a small community that involves many people in order to work. Teachers and students make up a school community, but many other people do too like custodians, nurses, bus drivers, principals, counselors, students, and many others, are necessary to be able to have a community in our schools.

A Community has Churches of all Religions

Communities are made up of churches of all religions. People are baptist, catholic, muslim, presbyterian, and many other religions. Families go to church for spiritual growth, help, fellowship, and fun activities.

Community IS People

When I think of community, I think of the people that help me. They usually have cool jobs and get to wear uniforms with neat things on it. Lots of kids want to be these people when they grow up because it seems so exciting. Without these people in our community, we would not have a community. Imagine your community without a police officer, a fiefighter, a mail man, a garbage man, a doctor, a dentist. I could not make it without these people in my community. The people who have these jobs in our community is what makes our community.
